Story time at The Hut
I’ve had a blog post brewing in my head for weeks. When one starts formulating I should really just go sit down and start writing. Instead I get distracted by other things and *poof*, it’s gone. I thought if I just sat down with my laptop it might come back and I think it is.
The other day on Facebook I posted a photo collage of a sign I made for my parents. My dad built this cute little building on their property complete with a big picnic table. They wanted this area by their pond to be a fun place to BBQ and hang out. We thought this building needed a name and all agreed on “The Hut”. I had this wonderful piece of yew wood my dad gave me years ago and I had pine that I used to cut out the letters for the name on my scroll saw. I cut, sanded and then glued and varnished and it turned out well. I delivered and hung it the next day and they were super happy.
Here is the collage…
A friend of mine commented “Your life is like a storybook”.
What a sweet compliment, I thought. And at the same time wondered what she meant. Is it because most of my posts I make in the social media world are positive and happy? I mean I like to think I am a pretty happy person and lead a positive life most of the time. But I don’t want to give people the impression that my life is perfect and I don’t have struggles.
.....Because I do. Hooo boy, do I.
Then it got me thinking about the whole storybook life concept. We all write the stories of our lives. You know for the most part. There are a lot of unforeseen things that can happen in one’s life but even with those we make choices on how all that can play out.
So far as I look back through the pages of my story, I feel really grateful for the lessons, the learning, the mistakes, and the teachers. I’m proud of where I’ve come from and I’m excited to see how the rest of the pages unfold. I’m also fully prepared to rip out and rewrite some pages that need an overhaul.
Yes.
I can do that, it’s my story after all.
